Aim = 50 − 20 − 5 = 25. Dashed line: from origin point 0, beside ball 2, to the 3rd cushion (20).
In the umbrella shot the cue ball goes first to the long cushion, then to the short cushion, touches ball 2 thinly from the side and comes down onto the other long cushion (3rd cushion) to reach ball 3. The start scale is on the long cushion that is the 3rd cushion; the aim is read on the 1st long cushion and found with the calculation Aim = Start − Arrival. The system is taught in two different forms (variants): in one, the arrival is chosen with 45° lines coming down from the short cushion to the 3rd cushion and no side spin is used; in the other, the arrival is read with a line from an origin point that depends on the start, passing beside ball 2, the distance of ball 2 from the 3rd cushion is also added to the calculation, and spin 2 is used.
When? When ball 2 is near the short cushion and the 3rd cushion and cannot be taken directly or with one cushion; among the bricole options, when there is no other way left.

Watch outIn the 45° lines form the start scale is given only for the range 35–50.
Watch outIn the diagrams the path after ball 2 is schematic; with a thin contact the cue ball comes down onto the 3rd cushion roughly in this direction. The dashed line is the reference line on which the arrival is read.
